About us

SSDP Utah is the University of Utah's chapter of Students for Sensible Drug Policy, an international organization with a grassroots community of students and individuals who believe the current drug laws are more harmful than preventive. We also believe that drug use is not a manner of criminal justice but of health issue and should be treated as such with rehabilitation rather than incarceration. SSDP Utah does not encourage nor condemns drug use, but supports that individuals should have the freedom of decision as long as these do not infringe upon others' freedoms or safety.

What we do

Several projects are in development here at SSDP Utah. One of our priorities is to pass "The Good Samaritan Policy" which grants amnesty from prosecution in medical emergency situations such as alcohol poisoning or overdoses. The purpose of a Good Samaritan Policy is to encourage people to call for help no matter what the circumstance and without fear of prosecution for doing the right thing. We are also committed to the Free Weldon Angelos case, in which a Salt Lake City resident received a 55 year sentence.

For more information on our current projects, please see the projects page.

Get involved!

If you are looking to join like-minded people in an effort to make a positive change for future generations, please go to the JOIN page. The club has student members from all majors who are passionate for change. We work to educate people about the inconsistencies of the drug system and inform everyone that they can make a difference by being active through events such as Hempfest, rallies and meetings.
Our focus emphasizes the harms and benefits of all drugs including (but not limited to): OTC, prescription, sports enhancement, religious and spiritual, illicit, herbal remedies...etc. Our goal is to gain a consistent, coherent, and comprehensive view on drugs in society.
